Sprinter Skid Plates for Off-Road Protection
Most of what keeps your Sprinter moving hangs below the frame, and the factory leaves it exposed. A Sprinter skid plate puts a layer of metal between your drivetrain and whatever the trail throws at it, so a bad line costs you a scrape instead of a tow.
We build our skid plates as a system. Start with the engine skid, then add transmission and rear differential coverage as your routes get rougher. The AWD engine skids mount to factory holes, so you don't have to drill into your chassis.
We give weight the same attention as strength. Our Classic Series AWD skids are high-strength aluminum, and the full system weighs roughly half as much as many competing designs. On a van already carrying a full build and a week of water, that's weight you'd rather spend somewhere else.
The differential skid takes a tougher approach with ¼-inch steel fabricated in-house in the USA. Step up to the Pro Series, and you get a second layer of UHMW polyethylene, a slick, impact-absorbing plastic that slides over rock without hanging up. Either version also keeps a careless tire shop from jacking your van up by the diff cover, which can damage the cover and drain your gear oil.
Fitment: 2015–2022 4x4 vs. 2023+ AWD Sprinter
Your model year decides which engine skid you need. Mercedes replaced the Sprinter's 4x4 system with a new AWD system for the 2023 model year and also moved to an all-four-cylinder engine lineup.
The new system sends up to 50% of torque to each axle on demand, while keeping the ground clearance and approach, departure, and breakover angles of the 4x4 it replaced. The hardware underneath changed, so we offer a separate engine skid for each generation.
2015–2022 Sprinter 4x4: The 4x4 Engine Skid Plate pairs ¼-inch 6061-T6 aluminum with a 3/16-inch steel front bash plate. Our transmission and transfer case skid attaches to it for coverage farther back.
2023+ Sprinter AWD: The AWD Engine Skid Plates come as a 9-lb front skid and a 15-lb rear skid, both fully powder-coated. The AWD Transmission Skid Plate bolts on behind them and requires the engine skid.
Both generations: The Differential Skid Plate fits 2015+ Sprinters and clears oversized fuel tanks.
Choose your chassis (2500 or 3500) and suspension at checkout. AWD engine skids for the 3500 include the overrun mounting brackets that chassis requires, and the lifted option covers Owl Arrow Pro and Van Compass 6.3 setups.
