Install | VS30+ Ladder Tire Carrier

Here is a step-by-step guide for installing the Ladder / Tire Carrier on a 2019 Mercedes Benz Sprinter van:

    Step-by-Step Instructions:

    Step 1: Prepare the Van

    1. Ensure the van has the correct 180-degree hinges with holes in them. If not, order the hinges from the manufacturer.
    2. Clean and prepare the area on the door where the ladder will be installed.

Step 2: Use the Foam Template

    1. Line up the foam template provided with the product on the van door.
    2. Using a Sharpie, trace the external circles on the template for the drilling points.
    3. Once marked, you can discard the template.

    Step 3: Drill the Holes

    1. Use the drill with the long drill bit to make the initial holes in the marked spots.
      • Ensure the drill is straight and drill through the outer sheet metal and the inner support panel.
    2. For cargo vans, continue drilling through both layers to create access for mounting the plate.
    3. Use the step bit to widen the outer hole to fit the door plate snugly.

Step 4: Fit the Door Plate

    1. Test fit the door plate to ensure the hole is the correct size.
    2. Once it fits, use spray paint or nail polish to cover any exposed metal to prevent corrosion.
      • You can either spray directly inside the hole or apply the paint using a rubber glove or spoon for a more controlled application.
    3. Widen the hole on the inside of the door if necessary and paint the inside metal for corrosion protection.

Step 5: Install the Door Plate

    1. After the paint dries, clean the area around the hole with alcohol wipes or soapy water.
    2. Peel off the red backing from the adhesive side of the door plate using a razor blade or box cutter.
    3. Align the plate with the holes and press it firmly onto the door.

    Step 6: Mount the Ladder

    1. Install the ladder hoop:

      • Position the hoop with the tabs facing up (these tabs are used for mounting a box if necessary).
      • Use the bolts included in the kit and thread them through the back of the ladder into the hoop.
      • Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to ensure even pressure, tightening to 60–70 foot-pounds.
    2. Install the ladder to the door hinges:

      • Insert the provided black bolts into the bottom and top hinges.
      • The shorter side of the bottom plate should face upward, and the holes should align with the tail light.
      • Use a 9/16 socket to tighten the nuts.

    Step 7: Secure the Ladder

    1. Use the stainless steel hardware, starting with a washer and threading it behind the ladder's tab.
    2. Pass the bolt through the aligned hole and tighten using an Allen key if needed.
    3. Add anti-seize lubricant on the bolts to ensure smooth assembly.

    Step 8: Final Adjustments

    1. Once all the bolts are in place and tightened, check for alignment and ensure all components are securely fastened.
    2. Apply Loctite to the bolts if needed for extra security.
    3. Place the provided rubber plug into any remaining open holes for a finished look.
