Step-by-Step Instructions for Mounting the Large Box to the B2 Carrier on a Sprinter Van
Step 1: Prepare for Installation
- Before starting, make sure to drill all necessary holes in the box while the B2 is still on the ground. Do not mount the box to the B2 first because you won’t be able to mount the B2 to your Sprinter Van with the box already attached.
- After drilling the holes, mount the B2 to the Sprinter Van, and then proceed to mount the box to the B2.
Step 2: Position the Box and Bracket
- Place the box upright and flip it around so you can work on the back where the bracket will be mounted.
- Use a template to mark the positioning of the bracket on the box.
- Mark the holes on the box by holding the bracket in place and ensuring it is aligned.
Step 3: Attach the Bracket
- The bracket will be mounted at the bottom of the box. Use inch-and-a-quarter bolts for the top and one-inch bolts for the bottom.
- Don’t worry if the one-inch bolts don’t fully engage the nylock; the top bolts will ensure the box is secure on the B2 carrier.
- For each bolt, insert a washer and then attach the bolt from inside the box through to the bracket.
Step 4: Align the Box with the B2 Carrier on the Sprinter Van
- Make sure the box is level by checking the alignment of the holes on the B2 carrier. These holes are pre-drilled and level across the carrier.
- If there’s a slight mismatch, adjust the box by moving it until the spacing between the holes on both sides of the B2 is equal.
- Once the box is positioned correctly, use a Sharpie to mark a line on the B2 where it meets the box to maintain the alignment.
Step 5: Reposition the Box for Drilling
- After marking the alignment, flip the box onto its front face to drill the necessary holes.
- For each hole, hold the bracket in place and measure the distance between the alignment marks and the top of the bracket. Ensure the measurements are consistent on both sides of the box.
Step 6: Measure and Mark the Holes
- Use the Owl Vans template to mark the drill points based on your measurements.
- Center the bracket on the box, and either eyeball it or use a tape measure to ensure the bracket is centered. The bracket should have equal spacing on both sides.
Step 7: Drill the Holes
- With the bracket in place, drill the marked holes on the box. If necessary, over-drill by 1/16th of an inch to allow for slight adjustments when tightening the bolts.
Step 8: Attach the Box to the B2 Carrier
- Now that the holes are drilled, set the box aside and prepare to mount it on the B2 carrier on your Sprinter Van.
- You will secure the box to the B2 by tightening the bolts from the inside of the box through to the carrier.
Step 9: Final Steps
- Once the bracket and box are mounted on the B2, insert the bolts from the inside of the box through the bracket on the B2.
- Ensure everything is tightened securely.
